Today we kicked off the Junior Pennant season. We played Woodlands who provided a formidable team. Our team was represented by Jack Blake, Daniel Semmens, Lockie Fulton, Brodie Holland, Brody Wanless and Xavier Walmsley. Unfortunately, we went down 4 games to 2. Every game except one went to the 15th, 16th or 17th hole. I need to give Brodie Holland a special mention. Brodie is our youngest player (9 yrs) off 34 and played an excellent young girl off a handicap of 10 and fought a great game, initially going down early then fighting back and eventually going down 7 & 6. Jack Blake led the team out going down early by 3 and turning halfway 1 up and eventually winning 3&2. Daniel Semmens playing off 12 played against a great player off 2. He fought back from being five down to eventually losing on the 17th 2&1. The highlight of this game was on the 16th. Daniel’s tee shot stopped 1 metre from the hole while his opponent was short on the fringe about 25 to 30 metres away then proceeded to hole his chip forcing Daniel to sink his putt to win the hole getting him back to 1 down. Then Lockie Fulton of 33 took on a 10 handicapper and played a great game that ebbed and flowed through the day. Lockie finally closed it out for a win on the 16th 4&2. Brody Wanless had a great tussle trying to come from behind however losing 4&3 at the 15th. Xavier Walmsley again had a great tussle against a more experienced opponent eventually going down 2&1. Next week we play Keysborough again at home, our number 1 player Jack Ning will be playing his first game representing Patterson River. Today was a very successful day showcasing the club, and special thanks need to go to Nicole Smith and Alan Patterson in doing all the behind-the-scenes work. Till next week, cheers Gary
